Online Poker Terminology - Online poker room deals 200 million hands
Online poker rooms have been around for about as long as there have been internet casinos, and the game of online poker is itself in a period of remarkable growth. And so it was towards the end of last week that one of the internet’s top online poker rooms, Absolute Poker, was expecting to deal its 200 millionth hand of online poker. That’s 200,000,000 hands of poker, if you’re counting or need to see the numbers. What makes the event ever so much more momentous is that one lucky player who was online when that 200 millionth hand was to be dealt was set to win a Grand Prize trip for two to Costa Rica, a prize including airfare, six nights of accommodation, and $500 spending money.
“Having dealt 200 million hands is an amazing achievement, especially considering that it was just last March that we announced our 100 millionth,” said Gian Perroni, an online poker room manager for Absolute Poker. “Absolute Poker has a loyal following, and our rapidly growing community has helped us reach this milestone in an amazingly short time period. Anticipation is building as the clocks ticks down to the day and we predict record levels of players will compete for the prizes.”
While not in any way attempting to dampen the spirits of online poker rooms like Absolute Poker, critics of online poker rooms point to the evidence that while Absolute Poker may have been on its way to dealing 200 million hands since its founding, the presence of “poker bots” cannot be discounted and the number of fair games versus online poker hands dealt is surely different. “Online poker has become a great boon to the online gambling industry, and the achievements of Absolute Poker should be applauded,” said one analyst. “But when you take into account the bigger picture, you see that Absolute Poker’s record, indeed the record of all online casinos and poker rooms, has a big question mark due to ‘poker bots’."
