Online Poker Terminology - Bodog sponsors poker-predator warning ads
Bodog is bringing public service ads for poker players as part of an anti-“poker-predator” campaign to a TV screen, movie theater, newspaper and other media near you. The entertainment arm of Bodog online casinos, a company which specializes in poker, online casino games as well as sponsoring other events, recently announced the launch of the new campaign with a series of four television ads which focus on the different types of poker gamblers who try to cheat you out of money at casinos. These ads will be followed up in December by spots on over 2,100 screens at 150 movie theaters across the U.S. playing before PG-13 and R-rated movies of a similar type and message, and the goal is simple: protecting poker players of all kinds from those who will try and hustle money away from them.
“This new advertising creative is intended to aid players in their poker game by identifying and thus lessening the potential threat these poker ‘predators’ pose,” Bodog founder and CEO Calvin Ayre says. “While serving as a teaching tool for real world games, these ads also highlight the fact that Bodog’s online poker provides a forum where predators are automatically disarmed and on the same level as everyone else.”
The move is seen by some observers as an attempt by Bodog to legitimize itself in the eyes of a U.S. bureaucracy that frowns on online gambling and has attempted on more than one occasion to squelch the phenomenon. Still, in the past few months Bodog has sponsored many events, included a very special event in Hawaii for members of the U.S. military returning from or heading off to the Middle East. If the poker predator warning campaign is received favorably Bodog could gain popular support from those viewing the ads, bolstering its efforts to legitimize and legalize online gambling in the U.S.
