Online Poker Terminology - Beware Online Poker Arrogance
If the online poker phenomenon hadn’t caught on, how popular and successful would online casinos be? Online poker companies like to think of themselves as ubiquitous, but it wasn’t always that way. Maybe online gambling would have caught on regardless of whether poker was successful. In any case, we’ll never know, because it was online poker that has taken the world by storm. And it is online poker that people look to when they think of what it takes to make any sort of online gambling company successful in more than just a marginal sort of way.
But is it right to count on the poker fad to be the basis of support for an entire industry? It might be a little premature to call online poker the backbone of the online gambling world, but right now it is. Whether this will always be the case remains to be seen, but we must beware accepting that as goes the online poker sector, so too goes the entire online gambling industry. It would be the height of arrogance for online poker companies to assume that they can do whatever they want, though.
Online poker is popular, but it isn’t immortal. One day, sooner or later, online gambling might fall out of fashion – or online gambling might continue to be popular, but online poker might fall out of fashion. Of course, this is unlikely, as poker online and offline is extremely popular in its own right and there is lots of money to be made. Still, observers of the online gambling industry should be wary of judging an entire industry by one game – or even more so, basing an entire industry on one game.
