Online Poker Terminology - Party Poker with Fraternity Promotion

Party Poker, which bills itself as the world’s largest online poker room, has announced that it will be providing a special promotion just for members of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. Alpha Epsilon Pi is a Jewish fraternity. The online poker promotion comes at a bad time for Greek organizations as a whole on college campuses, as they often suffer from an image problem at times. Some observers of the online casino industry noted that the last thing fraternities need is an image of gambling to go along with all of the other stereotypes, but it must be noted that most true fraternities at one time or another have a casino night – so the gambling image is already there.

College students are a big potential customer base for online casinos, though a good number of college students have not yet reached the legal age in the United States for gambling. Even so, online poker rooms provide ample opportunities for students to spend some of what little free time they have gambling online with the real possibility of winning some money if they’ve got a keen eye and mind for poker, be it poker of the type played offline or online.

It remains to be seen whether this Party Poker deal will eventually be opened up to other fraternities or sororities as well. Women make up a higher percentage than most people think of internet gamblers, and were Party Poker or any other online poker room or online casino to target sororities in the same way that they sometimes target fraternities, a major source of customers could be easily gained. Any future Greek organization-related promotions will probably be tried out based on the success of this current fraternity deal. So watch out, all you Greek brothers and sisters – online poker just may be on its way to you.
